Inadequate or non compliant Balcony balustrade can be a very serious and potentially fatal over sight, especially when it comes to infants and children.
The guidelines are clear:
Any balustrade with a greater fall height than 1 metre must comply with the Australian standards which states that no gap be greater than 125mm and a minimum rail height of 1000mm.
Below is a pic from today’s inspection in Encounter Bay, showing the Gap between the wall and Balcony post (balustrade) which is exceeding the safety requirements.
